FAQ's

Q: Can I pick up someone else's race packet or can someone else pick up my race packet?
A: Yes.  The person picking up multiple packets must sign for them and assumes all responsibility for lost packets and timing chips.

Q: Are there restrooms on the race course?
A: Yes, there is one at each of the water stops (3 miles, 5.5 miles, 8.8 miles and 11.3 miles).

Q: Is the race course closed to traffic?
A: No, the race course is being monitored by volunteers, bikers and police.  We ask the runners to be aware at all times and take extreme caution when on high traffic roads. 

PLEASE NOTE:  When running on the shoulder of the road, PLEASE stay inside the white line, even if it means spreading out from fellow runners. The local police departments have made this request for the safety of the runners and traffic, so please abide by their rules.

Q: Can I wear my i-pod or other music playing device?
A: Yes, although we recommend that you keep the volume at a level that will allow you to hear other runners, race officials, traffic, etc.  BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS.

Q: Maps?
A:  Yes, see "Course" tab above for:  Race Course, New Start, New Finish, etc.

Q: If I can no longer race due to injury or another matter, can I receive a full refund or transfer my registration?
A: No, we have a no refund and no transfer policy for insurance and liability reasons.  Race numbers cannot be transferred to others and penalties, including disbarment from future runs, may be enforced on violators, both the registrant and the person who uses their number.

Saturday May 1st

Packet Pick-Up
(new location in the mall across the street from Wells Fargo)

9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Come and pick up your race number, timing chip, event T-shirt, goody bag, and visit with our sponsors; Wells Fargo, New Balance and Schuler Shoes. You will also have a chance to visit with the Minnesota Pacers to find out which pacer group and wave is the right match for you! Packet Pick-up is located at:

Sunday May 2nd

RACE DAY Packet Pick-up is open: 6:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. However, we highly encourage you to pick-up Saturday as lines can be long with race morning packet pick up. Don't risk a delayed start.  Come in on Saturday for packet pick up.

New Wave Start

The race starts at 8:00 a.m. and will go out in THREE WAVES.   We will use a barricade system to divide the three separate waves and the Minnesota Pacers will have their signs in each wave indicating which wave you should be in according to your goal time:

8:00 a.m. WAVE #1(1hr 50 mins and better)
8:02 a.m. WAVE #2 (1hr 55 mins to 2hr 10 mins)
8:04 a.m. WAVE #3 (2 hr 11 min and over)

Finish Area, awards, refreshments, live music, busses: 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The finish area at the Excelsior Commons Park will be open from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. We will have an Awards Ceremony starting between 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. at the Band Shell.

The live music will start playing close to 10:00 a.m. and will continue during the festivities, so stick around and enjoy!

After you finish the event, remove your timing chip, receive your Wells Fargo Lake Minnetonka Half Marathon finisher’s medal, advance to the water station and keep moving forward into the post race food and refreshments tent / gear bag area. The refreshments / food tent is for athletes only and will be an area where you as an athletes will be able to relax and unwind after your long run. Busses will be available on the West side of Commons Park (there will be directional signs) from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 a.m. that will take you back to Wayzata. Safety and Medical

Identification (race number), is mandatory. Without a race number, you are subject to disqualification and will be removed from the race course. For safety reasons, the use of headphones and or ipods are highly discouraged, but are not prohibited. The course IS NOT FULLY CLOSED to traffic, so RUN WITH CAUTION!! There are volunteers and police covering all major intersections, but continue to RUN WITH CAUTION!! While running on the shoulders during the race, PLEAST STAY INSIDE the white lines.

First aid will be available on the course and just after the finish line, but please do your part if a runner is in need. Please alert police and or volunteers IMMEDIATELY if a runner is in need of assistance. Ambulances will be on alert in the area of the race course with medical personnel. Please move aside for these vehicles. It is imperative that they are allowed to move quickly and safely. All medical expenses incurred by participants are the responsibility of the participant.

1. Course -

2. Awards

- Age group awards for the top male and female:  Overall (top three), and top three in the following age groups: 19 & under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+. Top three overall male and female awards will be based off gun-time (head to head) and all age group awards following that will be based off of your chip time.  A technical tee shirt and refreshments are provided at the finish area for all registered runners.

3.  Race Start -  The race will start promptly at 8:00 am on Sunday the 2nd of May.  If for some reason you did not pick up your packet on Saturday, please allow yourself enough time to come and pick up your race number, tee shirt and timing chip.  Lines will be long as we will be processing a lot of runners.  If you plan to pick up your packet on Sunday, you run the risk of a delayed start.

4. Race Number, Tee Shirt and Timing Chip Pick-up - ATTENTION RUNNERS, there will be a NEW LOCATION for race number and timing chip pick-up this year.  SATURDAY MAY 1st from 9:00 am until 6:00 pm, we will be handing out race numbers, T-shirts and timing chips at Wayzata Bay Center.  This will help with the congestion on race morning, so PLEASE take advantage of this option if you have the flexibility.  See map for entry location in Mall

5. Driving Directions - West on 394 to the Wayzata / Hwy. 101 South exit.Turn right at the stop light onto Wayzata Boulevard and head west for approximately mile.  At the second stop light (Wells Fargo Bank) turn left onto Superior Boulevard.  For a map and directions to the event click here!

6.  Parking Options - There are plenty of parking spaces in and around the city Wayzata within walking distance of the starting line. The starting line is located just north of Mill Street on Superior Blvd. in Wayzata.

Wells Fargo Bank Wayzata: Located at 900 East Wayzata Blvd. There are approximately 90 spots available and will fill quickly.
Bay Center Parking Lot Located off of Superior Blvd. (left side) immediately after the road splits into Wayzata Blvd.

PLEASE DO NOT PARK in front of the Original Pancake House, use the spaces to the right. There is ample parking available here as well. We will have traffic volunteers directing you were to park. Please be courteous of our volunteers, they are giving up their time on a Sunday morning for you and for the safety of the race.

7. Transponder Timing - All racers will receive a transponder along with their race number to ensure accurate timing.  Timing will be performed by Prime Time Timing. Transponders will be the morning of the race or if you come to the packet pick-up on Saturday.

8. Water Stops - Water in cups will be available at the start, at MILE 3, at MILE 5.5, at MILE 8.8, at MILE 11.1 and also at the finish. Please make a conscious effort to throw your water cups and bottles in the designated areas OR away from and off the race course.

9. Return Transportation - Buses will be available at the finish line and will return runners to Wayzata from Excelsior between 9:30 am and 12:00 pm. 

10.  Gear Bags
Plastic gear bags are provided for warm-up clothing. Your bag must be tied securely and placed in the appropriate truck. Race officials will do everything they can to pick up lost or left gear, but are not responsible for any lost or stolen items. Do not place any valuables or sharp objects in your bag. Bags have been known to open, so please do not bring valuable or cherished clothing. Please be patient at the finish line, it takes time to sort and retrieve bags. WE WILL MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO GET YOUR GEAR BAG TO THE FINISH LINE IN TIME. IF IT IS NOT THERE, PLEASE BE PATIENT. BE SURE TO WRITE YOUR RACE NUMBER ON THE BAG.

11. Time Limit - 2 hours, 45 minutes

12. Race Results - Check Results section of our the web site for immediate results.

13. Toilets - Porta potties will be provided near the start area, at the water stations, and at the finish line. The future of this race depends on participants respecting the property and rights of area residents and businesses. Please use the toilets only.

14.  Medals and Shirts The shirts will be available at packet pickup inside the Wayzata Bay Center mall.  Medals will be distributed at the end of the race.

Pacer Team Information

The Lake Minnetonka Half Marathon is proud to announce the availability of pace groups to all runners in 2010.  On May 2nd be prepared to have the best half marathon you've ever had, as the Minnesota Pacers will be on hand to help you reach your half marathon goals while entertaining you along the way!

Here are some FAQ's on the pace groups:

What is a pacer?
A pacer is the runner in the group who carries a sign and leads the group to the finish line in a specific time goal. The pacer will run even splits and cheer on the group along the way. 

What pace groups will be offered:
We will be offering pace groups for the following time goals:
1:30, 1:35(7:15/mile), 1:40, 1:45, 1:50, 1:55, 2:00, 2:10, 2:15, 2:20, and 2:30(11:27/mile) Please check at the pacers table at packet pickup on May 1st for more pace groups that may be added to this list.

How do I sign up for a pace group?
Feel free to stop by the pacers table at the packet pickup time and sign up for free. The pacers will be handing out pace bands to all runners. 

Where do I meet my pace group on race morning?
Beginning 20-30 minutes before the race, the official pace team will all be lined up at the starting line according to pace. Feel free to join the pace group at the starting line and have a fun race with the group!

Do I have to stay with my pacer the entire race?
NO!  Feel free to use the pacer as a guide to how your race is going. If at any time you feel the pace is too fast you can always slow down on your own. Also, if you feel strong towards the end of the race, feel free to pick up the pace and beat your goal. The pacers are there to help you beat your goal. 

How will the pacers handle to aid stations?
Most of the pacers will simply slow down for the group to all get some fluids. The slower pace groups may walk thru the aid stations. The pacers will make all last minute instructions on there group at the starting line.

Who are the pacers?
The Minnesota Pacers Pace Team is comprised of locally talented runners who have been carefully chosen based on there recent success in marathons.  Let them guide you to the finish line on race morning. 

What should I do after the race?
Celebrate! Please take the time to thank the race volunteers and also let your pace leader know that you appreciate there hard efforts to make it a fun race. These pacers bring alot of energy and excitement to this race.
